The Liebster Blog Award!
Howdy readers! Helyn’s Healthy Kitchen is now the recipient of the Liebster Blog Award. What is a Liebster Blog Award? Simply it’s an award that is bestowed from a fellow blogger who thinks your blog is super cool and wants to help you to promote it. In turn, you then award other bloggers to help them grow their readerships. Liebster, in German, means beloved or loved.
I did a bunch of research on the topic because when I went out on the web hunting for other blogs to award, I found a lot of discrepancies as far as the official “rules” were concerned. Some awardees say that you have to find ELEVEN other blogs with less than 200 subscribers to award. Some said to award FIVE other blogs. That’s quite a difference. Well, as far as I am able to tell, the original rules state that once you accept your award you are obliged to nominate 3-5 of your favorite bloggers who have less than 3,000 readers. 3,000??? That’s a heck of a lot more than 200. And, how do I know how many readers a blog has anyway? Sometimes I don’t. But I’m awarding five blogs, some that I know are new and some that I just love. So if you’re awarded the Liebster by me, and you have a gazillion readers already, don’t be offended… it just means I love your blog and want to share it with others!
Oh, yeah. And the other rule is that you need to make mention of the person’s blog who awarded you, answer some questions that the person who awarded you has set forth AND ask questions of the folks that you are newly awarding. Yikes. That seems like a lot of work for one post. But also a lot of fun. So, I gladly accepted my Liebster Award from Lee of VEGGIE QUEST, who also subscribes to a whole food, plant-based lifestyle. Go, Lee! Thank you for the recognition! It took me a while to put this post together with my busy schedule, but here it is, finally.
Here are the questions Lee asked of me and my replies:
What do you like most about blogging?
Sharing healthy recipes and information. If I can help someone to transition to a healthier way of eating, that’s the most exciting thing in the world to me!
What do you like least about blogging?
Not knowing how many people I am actually affecting. I post almost every day. I started this blog in November of last year. I now have approximately 1,000 page views each day and that figure is growing fast! But relatively not so many comments. So are those folks who are seeing these pages actually making use of the recipes? Do they like them? I guess it’s the not knowing part that I don’t care for 🙂
What’s your favorite recipe from your blog, and why?
Wow, that’s a tough question. I have many favorites. I think it will be a tie… I am going to have to go with the Carrot Ginger Bisque and my Superfood Blueberry Smoothie. The soup has such an amazing depth of flavor with minimal ingredients. And I love soup. The smoothie? Well, I have it almost every morning so I guess I like it!
What kitchen appliance can you not live without?
My VitaMix. Hands down.
What’s your go-to herb/spice when something needs a little more flavor?
Salt-free Spike seasoning.
How do you save time in the kitchen?
I make large portions of things, especially soups and beans. Then freeze what I’m not using. Great for a quick meal when I’m on the go.
If you could only keep one cookbook from your collection, which one would it be?
Gah! Another hard question. Probably Dr. Fuhrman’s Eat for Health, which has an abundance of nutritarian recipes. Looking forward to his cookbook coming out in October!
You just won $5 million in the lottery. (After taxes, no less!) What are you going to do with all that money?
That’s easy. I would fulfill my dream of owning a large piece of property here in the Smoky Mountains with off-the-grid cabins for visitors and a larger main house as well as a large organic vegetable garden. I would set it up so that people could come and stay there while doing Dr. Fuhrman’s 6-week program! Of course, I would do the cooking ☺ Think of it as a healthy, bed and breakfast retreat. Yes, that would be a dream come true.
If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would it be?
Exactly where I am.
When you’re feeling blue, what’s one thing you can always count on to lift your spirits?
My wonderful man who is my rock, my partner, my lover, my best friend and my inspiration.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
“Failing to plan is planning to fail.” I live by that. I am a planning fanatic. It works.
Here are my new awardees for you to check out! I’ve included a photo each of one their scrumptious dishes that you can click on to head over to their blogs…

- When and why did you become vegan or switch to a plant-strong way of eating?
- When planning dinner for a large crowd, what is your go-to recipe?
- What’s your favorite holiday and how have you adapted one special dish to be plant-based which ordinarily is not?
- Who is your favorite celebrity chef and why?
That’s all the excitement I have for today. I hope you’ll visit these well-deserving, hard-working bloggers’ tasty sites and try some of their healthy, plant-based recipes.
