Gary Yourofsky on Animal Rights and Why We Should Avoid the Standard American Meat-based Diet
I stumbled upon this video today, deemed “the best speech ever” in the vegan community. I thought it quite fitting to watch the day after Thanksgiving, when most Americans gorge themselves on turkey and other animal-based foods. The first part of his speech centers on animal cruelty, in the form of CAFOs (Contained Animal Feeding Operations) also known as feedlots. He then delves into the disease-promoting effects of eating meat, cheese, eggs and milk.
As of September 14, 2012, Gary Yourofsky has given 2,388 lectures to more than 60,000 people at 178 schools in 30 states and 5 Israeli cities, including the University of Alabama, University of Florida and Georgia Tech. As of June 2013, his lecture has been translated into more than 30 languages for over 6 million YouTube hits. He’s also been arrested numerous times and is banned in two countries for his less-than-placid protest efforts in the name of animal kindness.
I may be preaching to the choir, dear readers, but I wanted you to have access to this brilliantly-conveyed argument about eating a vegan diet. I plan on sharing it with many who are not “in the know” about these issues or are on the fence about becoming vegan.
